Specific Objectives

  • Develop a methodological framework for the determination of plastics in environmental and human samples.
  • Identify subjects and organisms at risk and evaluate their direct and indirect exposure in order to determine the possible transfer of plastics along the food chain to humans.
  • Evaluate the (eco)toxicological profile and health risks of plastic products with particular reference to biodegradable polymers in population groups and in vulnerable environmental matrices.
  • Check whether the use of biodegradable polymers represents a possible solution to pursue to reduce potential risks.
  • Promote public awareness on issues relating to human health and the environment, addressing political decision-makers, civil society and the scientific community.
